So let’s talk about what makes a good chocolate chip cookie.  To start, you’ll be using some simple dry ingredients like all-purpose flour, baking soda, and salt.  One important thing with the flour is to make sure to measure it correctly by spooning it into the cup and leveling it off with the back of a knife.  You don’t want to scoop the flour out of the container with your measuring cup because the flour can become packed inside of the cup.  I have a full post about how to measure flour with the spoon and level method here.

1/2 tsp Baking Soda

4 ounces Chocolate Chips

Procedure:

  1. First, make sure to put everything in place especially the tools and equipments to be used. (mise en place)
  2. Pour white sugar and brown sugar into the mixing bowl.
  3. Melt the butter in the microwave for 20 seconds. You can also melt it in a pan until it is golden brown.
  4. Mix the ingredients using whisk until a paste forms with no lumps.
  5. Whisk the vanilla and egg and sift the flour and baking soda.
  6. Fold the mixture with a spatula or wooden spoon (be careful not to overmix, which could cause the gluten and flour toughen resulting in cakier cookies).
  7. Put chocolate chips and fold into the mixture, then chill for 30 mins. to 1 hour.
  8. Preheat the oven to 180° and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  9. Scoop the dough with an ice-cream scoop onto a parchment paper-lined baking sheet, leaving at least 4 inches (10 cm) of space between cookies and 2 inches (5 cm) of space from the edges of the pan so that the cookies can spread evenly.
  10. Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until the edges have started to barely brown.
  11. Cool completely before serving. Enjoy!
